Pentatonix Tacoma Concert reviews
Mediocre Peppers
Last night, I saw my first concert of 2026. Hopefully, it is not indicative of the rest of the shows this year.
Pros:
Up there with Roger Waters and U2, the best light show I've seen in quite some time at a concert.
Terrific mix/sound: I could hear every burning guitar riff, every bass note, every drum ping, and, unfortunately, Anthony's vocals.
Cons:
The boys' performance seemed bored, tired, pissed, or a combination of all three. Anthony's voice sounded pretty weak, not that he didn't have the range, just that he didn't want to use it.
Energy: The sold-out crowd were there for a rock show, but the whole night felt like an episode of Bedtime Magic with David Allen Boucher, except for two or three songs.
Setlist: How could they not play Under the Bridge, Suck my Kiss, Scar Tissue, Californication, or Breaking the Girl? The setlist had no shape or flow and put me to sleep. OK, I'm going to be that guy, but not playing at least one of the above songs was criminal. Trust me, I have no problem with bands mixing up their set lists and getting tired of playing "greatest hits."
The Pentatonix, always a spotty band live. Two were terrific, two were mediocre, two were awful, including the last time they played Boston back in 2026.
Last night fell into the mediocre to awful category.
So, the Pentatonix at the TD Garden, 2/8/17. Nice lights. Not much else.
